Sumava de Lourdes represents Costa Rica This micromill is managed by Francisco Mena, president of the specialty coffee exporter "Exclusive Coffee." Mena is a central figure in Costa Rica's specialty coffee industry, which continues to evolve year after year. He utilizes his experience and knowledge to produce coffee of excellent quality.
By having the exporters themselves produce on the farms, they can share technology and advice on management systems, which will lead to an exchange of opinions from the same perspective as producers and improve quality, making them a significant "model farm." Therefore, Sumava produces coffee while responding to various trends such as production processing methods, varieties, and recent high altitude production. They have been working continuously with many producers to improve quality, and in 2016 they won the Cup of Excellence.
Milenio is a hybrid of Rume Sudan and Sarchimor, both native to Ethiopia.
Hybrid varieties are purposely developed to have traits such as disease resistance and high yields while maintaining quality, helping farmers increase production efficiency. The Milenio variety is widely grown in Central America, primarily in Costa Rica, and boasts high quality.
